2009 Alumni Reunions Draw Outstanding Turnout
In one of the most well-attended reunions in the Law School's history, King Hall Alumni from eight different classes filled the Studio Theatre at the Mondavi Center for the 2009 Alumni Reunions on September 26, toured King Hall and the King Hall Expansion and Renovation project construction, and attended a variety of related receptions and activities.
Alumni from King Hall's first graduating Class of 1969 as well as members of the classes of 1974, 1979, 1984, 1989, 1994, 1999, and 2004 came together to mingle and reminisce, enjoy lunch, and listen to brief addresses by King Hall Alumni Board President Steve Boutin '72 and Dean Kevin R. Johnson. Total attendance was about 250.
Boutin introduced Dean Johnson as "a gentleman of quiet drive and firm resolve who will take the Law School to an even better place and something we can be even more proud of."
Dean Johnson thanked the reunion organizing committees, which played a key role in increasing excitement about the event and boosting attendance, and acknowledged the many faculty in attendance, including former Dean Rex Perschbacher and Professors Alan Brownstein, Joel Dobris, Miguel Méndez, Floyd Feeney, Lisa Ikemoto, Krystal Jaime, Lisa Pruitt, Martha West, and Richard Wydick. Much of his address focused on the construction project, which has progressed rapidly in recent months.
"With the support of our generous donors, the state, and the university, I'm quite confident the new building will open as scheduled in May," he said. "We have only been able to do that because of the support you've been able to give us."
Following the reception, many alumni toured the construction site, where construction of the new east wing is nearly half complete. The exterior walls are rapidly taking form, with the contractor on schedule to finish them by mid-November. Touring alumni were also able to view the progress that has occurred in the building's interior, where offices and classrooms are being framed, gypsum board walls are being raised, and fire sprinklers and electrical systems are being installed.
Following the reunion, five classes held organized events including dinners and receptions. Dean Johnson and former Dean Perschbacher attended the UC Davis football game that evening, accompanied by UC Davis Chancellor Linda Katehi and her husband Spyros Tseregounis, an engineering professor at UC Davis.
