LRAP Expansion Draws Media Coverage
Plans to expand the King Hall Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP) drew coverage from the Sacramento Bee, Davis Enterprise, Sacramento Business Journal, the California Aggie, and Central Valley Business Times last week in the wake of a September 28 UC Davis press release.
LRAP, a groundbreaking program that offers financial assistance to graduates working in public interest law, is set to amend participation requirements to offer more loan repayment assistance to more King Hall graduates beginning January 1. The Law School will raise the salary cap for participants from $53,000 to $60,000, lessen the time period they must work before loans can be forgiven from five years to one, and allow participants who earn less than $40,000 annually to have full repayment assistance with no personal contributions.
"Our law school has been in the lead in California in encouraging students to pursue careers in the public interest," Dean Kevin R. Johnson states. "This expansion comes at a critical time as low-income people struggle for access to justice. We hope that it will encourage more students to pursue their dreams of a public-interest career."
