Professor Hillman Comments on SEC Settlement for Bloomberg.com
Professor Robert Hillman commented on a federal judge's rejection of a $33 million settlement between Bank of America and the Securities and Exchange Commission for Bloomberg.com. In the article, Professor Hillman asserts that the decision "definitely throws a wrench in [the SEC's] efforts" at rebuilding reputation.
"The SEC has been one of the most highly respected federal agencies," Professor Hillman said. "Whether it's fair or unfair, the general perception of the SEC is that it's not been doing its job in the past several years. The SEC needs to re-earn its stripes."
Professor Hillman holds the Fair Business Practices and Investor Advocacy Chair at UC Davis School of Law and is a scholar in the fields of international transactions, securities regulation, and corporate and partnership law.
