Professor Amann's Report on Guantánamo Featured in The Public Record
A report on pre-trial hearings for prisoners at the Guantánamo Bay detention center co-authored by Professor Diane Marie Amann was referred to extensively in an article published by The Public Record, a nonprofit journalism organization, and republished at The Huffington Post.
The article reports on the most recent delay in the Military Commission trial of five men charged in connection with the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. It points out flaws in the hearing process in part by making reference to a National Institute of Military Justice report containing observations by Professor Amann, who attended pre-trial hearings at Guantánamo in January 2009. Among the observations quoted is her conclusion "that the post-9/11 military commissions are unlikely to afford fair trials to the defendants who appear before them."
Diane Marie Amann is Professor of Law at UC Davis School of Law and Director of the California International Law Center at King Hall.
