Shannon Weeks McCormack received a Bachelor of Arts with Distinction in Mathematics from the University of Virginia in 2000 and received a Juris Doctor cum laude from Harvard Law School in 2003. She practiced as a tax associate at Davis Polk and Wardwell's New York office from 2003 to 2004. At Davis Polk, Shannon focused primarily in the area of financial products, analyzing the tax consequences of complicated hybrid instruments. Shannon then clerked for the Honorable Joseph H. Gale at the United States Tax Court in Washington, DC until 2005. Before returning to Cambridge in 2006, Shannon received her LL.M. in taxation at Georgetown University Law Center, graduating with Distinction. At Georgetown, Shannon was selected as one of five Graduate Tax Scholars receiving a full tuition fellowship. This year Shannon attended the annual "Eucotax" conference held at Tilburg University, the Netherlands. Representatives from approximately 15 countries met to prepare and present collaborative papers on the comparative tax aspects of selected topics (this year the conference focused on Group Taxation, a topic of particular relevance in light of newly emerging EU constitutional issues). Shannon returned to Harvard Law School as a Climenko Fellow in the summer of 2006. Shannon's legal and scholarship interests are generally in the area of taxation, and more specifically in the areas of financial products and international taxation.
