Visitors from Bangladesh

Last week, Professor Anupam Chander and I met with some dignitaries from Bangladesh during a visit to the law school.  Brian Hebert, Executive Director of the California Law Revision Commission (housed in King Hall) hosted the delegation, which included State Minister Qamrul Islam of the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs.

Professor Chander and I had an excellent discussion with the group, who were very interested in learning about UC Davis, the Law School, and lawmaking in the United States. Professor Chander told them about our California International Law Center (CILC) and invited future collaboration.

Brian explains how the meeting came about: “I was originally contacted by the LA consulate, requesting a meeting to discuss legislative practices (including the function of my agency) with  H.E. Advocate Md. Qamrul Islam, Honorable State Minister, Minister of Law Justice & Parliamentary Affairs (MLJPA).  It soon became clear to me that they would benefit from meeting with people in the Legislature itself, so I made inquiries and the matter was referred to the Senate Office of International Relations. They set up a series of meetings for the visitors.”

One of those meetings in Sacramento was with King Hall alum Diane Boyer Vine ’86, Legislative Counsel of California.

Thanks to Brian Hebert of the CLRC for setting up the opportunity to meet with the delegation!
