The Week in Review

It's been a busy week at King Hall!

• - We wrapped-up the Fenwick & West CleanTech Symposium, which was a huge success. See pictures on our Flickr site  and video of the keynote presentations here.
• - The "Eggheads" that were in front of King Hall were re-located to their new home in Mrak Circle. There's a good news article about it here . You can see the sculptures on our live webcam at www.law.ucdavis.edu/webcam.
• - Faculty, staff, students, and alumni from the Immigration Law Clinic will head to Hamilton City (near Chico) tomorrow to take part in a Know Your Rights citizenship fair. More than 1,000 attendees are expected!
• - More good news from the Immigration Law Clinic: Professor Holly Cooper writes, "One of the clinic's newest clients was granted bond this week by IJ Spencer Walters in Eloy, Arizona. Our client entered as a child refugee to the United States after fleeing Liberia and fighting for survival in a refugee camp in Ghana. He went on to graduate high school and be awarded a scholarship at Sacramento State University. The students, Elica Vafaie, Su Yon Yi, Rachel Ray and Jocelyn Wolf, have devoted countless hours to his case and developed complex legal arguments regarding our client's right to a bond hearing. Today, the IJ granted a bond and the client was ecstatic. He has been detained almost two years and has no deportable crimes and no valid ground of removal lodged against him. He has twin daughters and hopefully will be reunited with them shortly." Great work!
• - Congratulations to Scott Vignos '11 on being selected to serve on Chancellor Linda Katehi's Graduate Student Advisory Committee. I know Scott will do a great job representing the King Hall student body!
• - 25 attorneys from the Brazilian energy giant Petrobras  are finishing their intensive educational program at King Hall, where they studied international commercial, energy and contract law. Petrobras is the world's eighth biggest global company in market value (Source: Ernst & Young), and its attorneys come to King Hall to further their education! How cool is that?
• - Yesterday, I traveled to the Annual Meeting of the U.S.-Mexico Bar Association. The title of the panel discussion in which I participated was "U.S. Immigration Impact on Mexico - Reform? Protection? Residence?" The meeting was held in San Diego, which was nice, but as always, it's good to be back at King Hall.
