Summer Networking Opportunities Abound
Posted By Kimberly Thomas, Jun 18, 2009
Below are some summer networking opportunities in various cities. These are great opportunities that enable students to meet representatives of firms and organizations. When: Thursday, June 18, 2009 from 6:00-9:00pm Last year, over 200 attorneys and law students attended the event, making it a great success. As one of AABA's most popular events, the Summer Law Clerk Reception creates an ideal social setting for Bay Area attorneys, summer associates in firms and in-house positions, and law clerks in government and public interest sectors to get to know each other. Additionally, the reception recognizes each year's AABA summer grant recipients for their dedication to community service and client advocacy. When: Thursday, June 25, 2009 from 5:30-7:30pm The Bar Association of San Francisco, Bay Area Black Partners Group, Charles Houston Bar Association, and California Association of Black Lawyers invite you to attend the African American Partners and Associates Reception. When: Various dates and times in June and July Goodwin Procter will be hosting receptions this summer for rising 2Ls (the Class of 2011) at schools where they interview on-campus or through job fairs -- this is a great way for you to get to know them (and vice versa) before the busy fall recruiting season. When: Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at 12:00 Noon Each year, Legal Services of Northern California (LSNC) and the Voluntary Legal Services Program (VLSP), two of the best legal service providers in Northern California, have a lunch to help summer clerks get acquainted with their organizations. With the help of LSNC board member, Jeff Galvin, the law firm of Downey Brand in Sacramento, one of the premier law firms in Northern California, has expanded this luncheon to all law students. They have a room at Downey Brand that holds about 100 people reserved for July 7 at noon. Lunch will be provided. When: Tuesday, July 14, 2009 from 11:30am-1:30pm The Bay Area Legal Recruitment Association (BALRA) cordially invites you their Diverse Paths: Diversity Efforts during a Downturn. This program will explore the effect of a recession on the Legal Profession's commitment to Diversity. Join law firm partners, associates, recruitment officers, diversity professionals, law school administrators, and fellow law students, among others, for a lively discussion regarding how the recession has affected diversity programs in the legal community. Discover the effect of the downturn on recruitment, how to evaluate an employer's commitment to diversity, and continuing diversity initiatives and efforts. Lunch will be provided. There is no cost to attend.
