Scholarships Donor Recognition
The Cruz and Jeannene Reynoso Scholarship for Legal Access has been established at the UC Davis School of Law to help admitted students with economic needs to attend the Law School. Cruz and Jeannene Reynoso want to ensure students are admitted based on their abilities, promise, and willingness to work hard, and are able to attend regardless of their ability to pay the cost of increasing student and professional fees. This new scholarship announces to students from families with low to moderate incomes, if they are admitted, the School of Law will help them with their desire to enter the legal profession.
Cruz and Jeannene Reynoso understand the need for access scholarships. Cruz grew up in a family of 11 children in Orange County. As the son of Mexican farm workers, he picked fruit and dreamed of attending college. Upon high school graduation, and defying the odds, Professor Reynoso’s dream came true when he was awarded a full scholarship to Pomona College after graduating from Fullerton Junior College. Cruz and Jeannene Reynoso met while both worked in Washington, D.C. They married while Cruz studied law at the University of California, Berkeley, during which time Jeannene worked as a secretary to support them.
The UC Davis School of Law is grateful to Professor Cruz and Jeannene Reynoso for establishing this Scholarship. The Scholarship will ensure that the School remains a truly public law school, a place of personal promise for all our students, one that welcomes everyone based on their merit, and that carries out its mission of educating, scholarship, and service to the community, the state, the nation, and the world. Cruz, with Jeannene’s support, has devoted much of his professional life to serving those in need.
