Immigration Law Clinic: Naturalization Workshop

April 14, 2012, 10 A.M. - 4 P.M., University of the Pacific, Stockton

UC Davis School of Law, in collaboration with the California Rural Legal Assistance Foundation, the Immigrant Legal Resource Center, and McGeorge School of Law, will be sponsoring a naturalization workshops in Stockton, California.  Faculty, staff attorneys, and students from the Immigration Law Clinic at UC Davis School of Law will provide free advice and counsel on immigration-related matters.  The law students will work under the supervision of staff attorneys from the UC Davis Immigration Law Clinic.

The UC Davis Immigration Law Clinic provides an invaluable service to Northern California's immigrant communities, offering education and free legal services to low-income immigrants facing deportation while enabling UC Davis law students to gain practical, real-world experience.

Immigration Law Clinic: Informational Meeting

Naturalization Workshop Training

March 10, 2012, 10 A.M. - 4:30 P.M., Kalmanovitz Appellate Courtroom (Room 1001), King Hall, UC Davis

UC Davis School of Law, in collaboration with the Polanco Fellows, CRLAF, Pacific McGeorge School of Law and the ILRC will be providing a naturalization workshop as part of the Cesar Chavez Day of Service.  We request all volunteers attend this training, which will be conducted by Eric Cohen, Executive Director of Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC).

Lunch will be provided.  MCLE credit available.

Northern California Clinical Conference

February 25, 2012, 9 A.M. - 4:30 P.M., Kalmanovitz Appellate Courtroom (Room 1001), King Hall, UC Davis

The conference brings together California clinical faculty to discuss recent developments and strategies in clinical law teaching.  

This year’s focus will be on how we teach collaboration in a clinical setting. We are very excited to announce we will start the day with an interactive keynote presentation led by Margaret Montoya and Christine Zuni-Cruz, of the University of New Mexico, School of Law.  Professors Montoya and Zuni-Cruz will show through their own collaborative presentation how we can address gender, race, class and diversity issues when we teach collaboration. 

The conference will also include a day of plenary and small group discussions.  Conference attendees will be provided a descriptive summary of the conference theme in advance to facilitate meaningful participation.   During lunch, the attendees will select and meet with small affinity groups.  As always, the Northern California Clinical Conference also provides an opportunity to meet new clinicians in our community and learn about the latest projects and initiatives being offered by our area’s clinics.

Training for Defense Counsel Representing Clients Sentenced to Life

January 23, 2012, 5:30 - 6:30 P.M., Oakland, CA

UnCommon Law, the Alameda County Public Defender, and the UC Davis Clinical Programs Present: “What Defense Counsel Can Do Today to Improve the Chances of Parole for Clients Sentenced to Life.”  Training will be conducted by Keith Wattley, Managing Attorney at UnCommon Law and a parole expert who has represented thousands of lifers in parole hearings and writs challenging decisions by the parole board and the Governor.
